Philip Penfold, 45, was born and raised in Maitland. He was first elected to represent the people of Maitland's interests 9 years ago as a councillor on Maitland City Council. He is currently in his second term.


Philip first became inspired to make a difference in Maitland while spending 18 months living in the USA. During his time there he was lucky enough to witness the small, but very proud and community minded city. During his time there he saw the community work together to achieve results, based on their commitment and love for their hometown. Philip said these actions motivated him to take part in his own hometown of Maitland.

Philip formerly was the vice captain of Rutherford High School in 1990 and went on to work for Commonwealth Bank, be a branch manager at Greater Building Society, then to establish the Mortgage Choice at East Maitland. He is presently the secretary manager of Maitland Park Bowling and Sporting Complex.


Philip lives with his wife, Nicole, and two sons William and Matthew. He is a self-proclaimed political tragic with a strong interest in both Australian and United States politics. He’s also a movie buff and a frequent user of social media.

Philip is the former chief instructor of Hunter Valley Karate, he retired in 2008 after being involved for more than 20 years.

Philip is a justice of the peace, a Rotarian, and an eager contributor to community service and charity in Maitland. Philip founded the charity Hunter Valley Men's Crisis Support which provides assistance to homeless in Maitland/Lower Hunter and he continues assist the charity achieve it's outcomes locally.
